Johnny Appleseeds for the 21st Century

An enterprising company has found a resourceful way to recycle the bubble gum machine into a guerrilla gardening effort. Greenaid of Common Studio has developed seedbombs which are made from a mixture of clay, compost, and seeds.

These tiny seed troves of wildflowers can be used to green up any gray area wastelands that plague any urban area. "They can be thrown anonymously into these derelict urban sites to temporarily reclaim and transform them into places worth looking at and caring for. Using just the loose coins in your pocket, you can make a small but meaningful contribution to the beautification of your city!"

Greenaid is "equally an interactive public awareness campaign, a lucrative fundraising tool, and a beacon for small scale grass roots action."

“The hope is that seedbombs can be a fun first step, a gateway drug, in getting folks to better understand and re-evaluate their daily environment,” says one of the developers.

I am also seeing an excellent way to engage children and teens in a fun exercise of environmental appreciation.
