Embracing the Cold

With gloved hands she rang out 2010;
once full of promise and hope,
now a living/dying chronicle.
The stinging cold of disappointments, alienation
loneliness, fear
lurked like menacing storms
through the seasons
but shelter like a cedar grove
appeared in the chalky horizons.
She reached out her arms in acceptance
and embraced the moments day by day
looking for glimmers
to huddle the encroaching cold.
Her hands are warm, caressed by people close
and soothed with the gracious acceptance of others;
cushioned by soft clouds of dreams fulfilled
and not
goals managed and dashed
daily joys and sorrows
accepted like flickering light
under a vulnerable tree.
Dark and light
Warm and cold
morphed into
grace and acceptance.
